Dr. Victoria Edem focuses on curriculum development and teacher training for the Unwana Leadership Academy for Girls. 

Dr. Victoria Edem is Assistant Principal in the Department of Mathematics at WATCH Secondary School in New York, USA. She is also the Executive Director for Programming and Data Analysis, the center for data collection in partnership with the State’s Department of Education.  She supervises the administration of the Mathematics Program, working closely with staff, students and parents to improve students’ performance and teachers’ instruction.  Dr. Edem has developed a culture of collecting, examining and utilizing data in the school for the purpose of regular Professional Development to staff members on data governance. At the University level, Dr. Edem is currently an Adjunct Assistant Professor at New York City Technical College, instructing undergraduate students in mathematics.

Over the last 15 years Dr. Edem has served in an executive capacity in both thought and practice. As a Math Coach at STAR Early College and YCD Secondary Schools, she modeled lessons and provided instructive feedback to Mathematics Teachers in order to implement the new state-mandated Math Program.  Also working closely with the principal to assess teachers’ needs and student data, she co-taught regularly scheduled classes to demonstrate proper lesson administration for the classroom teacher. As a Mathematics Consultant with the world-renown Princeton Review™ Dr. Edem was part of the team that created the ground-breaking pilot of data-driven professional development and instruction in Mathematics that trained teachers to use a new online formative assessment tool to analyze students’ reports and improve math instruction.

Dr. Edem earned her Ph.D from New York University in 1997 where she studied Applied Science.  She has worked as a Research Scientist for Ocean Weather Incorporation, as a Regional Meteorologist for the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA), and as a Lecturer for College of New Rochelle, Queensborough Community College, NYC Technical College at the collegiate level. She has also served her community as the Secretary for the National Akwa Ibom State Association USA, Inc. New York Chapter.
